I am keeping with the theme of last week's photo by choosing this photo of a tree growing on top of a wat (temple) in Siem Reap in northwestern Cambodia. I loved the few days we spent in Siem Reap, exploring the various wats, many of which are now overgrown with jungle.
That's my sister-in-law climbing on the right so it gives you a sense of the size of those tree roots!

Oh my goodness, what an interesting photo. Those tree roots are massive. Thanks for sharing it!
That is truly amazing!
Gosh those are some huge roots! I had to look again to see your sister.
What an incredible sight!
Facinating picture.

Everyone--We saw a number of wats that had plants and trees growing out of them, it was extraordinary
I hadn't realized how big that was so I'm glad you pointed out your sister-in-law. It looks like something out of Lord of the Rings.
Wow. I want to climb on this tree, too!
Wow, that's huge when seen in perspective! Great picture! I love these ancient (or not) temples that are as much a part of nature as humans.
That is too cool; love the photo.
Love this picture, it looks really anazing.
Oh that is cool!!
Alyce--I have learned over the years that putting a person in a photo is so important to give perspective
Anne--we weren't sure climbing was allowed, but no one was around so...
Aths--Some of these temples were built about 1000 years ago so they are pretty old. Actually, the Cambodians have hired a Japanese firm to help restore them
Dieane, Vithya, and Angie--Siem Reap is one amazing place!
That's amazing.. makes me feel really tiny.
Leslie--great observation. I definitely felt "small" at these temples, kind of like I do in a huge cathedral, but these temples include nature as well
I found Cambodia fascinating - especially Ankor Wat. The trees are truly amazing!
Booksnyc--Cambodia is one of my favorite places that I have visited!
