Top Ten Tuesday: Best book to movie adaptations

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because they are particularly fond of lists.

Top Ten books to movie adaptations...
It is rare for me to enjoy a movie after I've read the book. In fact, I often avoid the movie if I've loved the book for fear that I will be disappointed
  1. Star Wars--I mean episode III, the very first Star Wars that came out with Harrison Ford, et al
  2. To Kill a Mockingbird--Who could forget Gregory Peck in this one?
  3. Of Mice and Men--I like the more recent version with John Malkovich as Lenny
  4. Harry Potter--I LOVE the Harry Potter books and know that the movies aren't perfect, that a lot gets left out, but I still love (and own) them all
  5. Pride and Prejudice (and other Jane Austen books)--This is so not my kind of book to read, but I love the movies/BBC TV series
  6. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas--I didn't love the book, but the movie is well done
  7. Kite Runner--The movie has the same tension as the book does
  8. Fried Green Tomatoes--I thought the movie did a wonderful job at capturing the characters and the mood of the book
  9. War Horse--Ok, this isn't a movie, it's a stage play, but it was a wonderful rendition of the book
  10. Carrie's War--This was a BBC movie, but it was so well done!

My favorite adaptations by far is The Hours. I love the movie and thought the book was pretty meh to bad. Movie is my favorite though!

I'd have to say Like Water for Chocolate. The movie had the same dreamy feel as the book!

I love your Star Wars one! Someone mentioned Interview with the Vampire and I completely agree with that one! I'm also hoping The Help lives up to my expecations, especially since Emma Stone and Allison Janney will be in it!

As a devoted fan of the books, I was both disappointed and excited by the LOTR movies. Despite Faramir and Denethor's depiction in the last one, though (so wrong), I'd have to say that they're among some of the movies I love the most.

Amanda--I have neither read nor seen The Hours, perhaps I'll skip the book and go for the movie

Connolly-Ahern--Like Water for Chocolate is a great one to add to the list!

Short Story Slore--I can't wait to see the Help and really hope they don't reck it

Jeanne--I've heard the LOTR movies are wonderful

My all time fav is Lord of the Ring series! I just love it more every time I watch it!

Btw, I wanted to give you a book/movie recommendation, in case you haven't read/watched it - The Freedom Writers Diary. I watched the movie last night, and it was so amazing and beautiful! I went and took the book from the library today and hope to read it soon!

Aths--Confession: I have neither read nor seen the LOTR series (gasp!). But, I have read and seen Freedom Writer's Diary, both of which I liked a lot

Nice list! I agree with Amanda on the movie adaptation of The Hours, but disagree about the book. :) I simply loved the book! It's especially good if you read Mrs. Dalloway just before it. I also liked the movie version of Orlando.
I liked the LOTR movies, but I've always found the books boring!
All of the movie/miniseries versions of Sarah Waters' novels are very good.

Tiina--So many good ones on your list! I have never read Mrs. Dalloway...
