30 Days of Insight: Culture

Day 19: A passage from a book that has touched you

How ironic that as a reader I don't really have an answer to this one! There are so many wonderful lines and passages and moments in the books I've read that I can't imagine coming up with just one. I love it when a book moves me to tears, laughter, or even just makes me smile. But, I am not one to keep track of interesting quotes from books.

Day 20: A band that you immediately liked and the song that made you like them.

I am going to have to go with 2 answers to this one. The Beatles is an obvious one for me. They were broken up by the time I was paying attention to music, but their songs were played a lot in my house in the late 1960s and into the '70s (who are we kidding, we still play them!). I don't know what the first song I would have heard would be though. The cool thing is, when I was 12 we lived in London just off Abbey Road near the pedestrian crossing on the Abbey Road album (which is just outside the Apple Recording Studios). I went there again this summer.

The first record album I ever bought with my own money was the Silvers. I loved their song "Hotline". That was in 1976!

Day 21: Your favorite medium of art

If I was doing art it would definitely be photography. But, to look at and admire I am going with painting. Particularly the works of Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, and others in the late 1800s/early 1900s. In fact, I got to see an awesome exhibit of my favorite artists (including the painting below) at the Musee D'Orsey this summer in Paris!

That is SO cool that you lived just off Abbey Road! I've yet to go to London, but it's on my list...

And so funny you'd mention the Sylvers. I'd forgotten "Hotline," but last weekend I had "Boogie Fever" stuck in my head. And now I think it's back! Thanks. :-D

I really envy those who quote quotes easily. I find that a really hard task. I don't think I can ever answer that question easily either!

Florinda--Dancing in my living to Hotline was one of my favorite activities! Boogie Fever is another good one

Aths--I am just not a quote-rememberer (is that even a word?). I have had moments where I think it would be so cool to keep track of interesting tidbits then I don't even get around to writing down even one!
