Sunday Salon: March 15, 2020

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz runs The Sunday Salon.

This week's Sunday Salon looks a little different because, well, life is now a little different (how's that for an understatement?!). Here's how things are going in my neck of the woods in southern California.

My daughter came home from college for spring break last Saturday. It is great to see her, but boy does it alter the way my home life is. I don't read, like at all. We watch way more movies/TV, we eat out more, and we do more "errands" (read: runs to Target and CVS) since she isn't good at thinking ahead and getting things all done at once. She found out on Thursday that her college shut down until April 10, but at least she's home (and totally irritated by all the rain we're getting as she had hoped for sunshine).

My dad is off in the UK visiting family and we've just changed his flight to come home Monday instead of next weekend. I think we're going to make him self quarantine because my niece had a student at her school in the UK test positive and he will have been in a ton of airports, etc. My mom has a lung disease so we're being really careful.

My school district declared on Friday that we are shut down until April 3 (one of those weeks is spring break) and I'm sure it will go longer. However, staff have to report to work on Monday and Tuesday and I think my role is going to be helping teachers learn how to make distance learning work.

I am currently reading 2 books, and by reading, I mean they are sitting in front of me and I've read a total of about 30 pages over the past week, which is less than impressive.

My TV/movie watching has been good. My daughter and I both really liked Argo and would love to find more movies like that (political intrigue, international intrigue) so if you have suggestions, that would be great! We're watching 30 Rock from the beginning and while I walk on the treadmill each morning I am watching The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, which is perfect to keep my attention.

I hope you are all doing well, keeping healthy, not freaking out, and reading good books.
