Sunday Salon: Glee Concert!

Family and Life:
Mom's Birthday was yesterday and her treat to herself was to go to the Glee Concert in Los Angeles. The best part is that my daughter and I got to go as well. It was so much fun!

First a funny thing. As we waited for the charter bus a priest approached us. He was mid to late 60s, had a collar, a large wooden cross necklace, and was wearing a frock-coat. He also had a pillow in a plastic bag because his back hurt. He joined us and went to the Glee concert!

We took a charter bus (2+ hour ride) down to the LA Farmer's Market where we had lunch and did a little shopping. I'd never been to the LA Farmer's Market, it's really more an outdoor restaurant market.

Then onto the Staples Center for the 3:00pm show. The opening act was LDX (The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) and they are amazing. They appear on Hulu if you want to see them. Unfortunately, there was a 45 minute delay between opening act and Glee, but once they started it was an hour and 20 minutes of excitement, music, video, dancing, singing, and more! To see the actors in person doing the singing and dancing was SO MUCH FUN! And, I must say, having someone else deal with the LA traffic and parking nightmare was a real treat.

Work:
Wednesday was our end-of-the year assembly where they give out the annual awards and I got one! The students voted me for the ASB Special Achievement Award for turning around our library and the school's website.

The seniors are done and I have only 3 days left with students! This is the craziest time of the year for a high school librarian as I am spending all day on my feet lifting textbooks. Boy was I tired Friday night!

Books and Reading:
I have a give away going for Tom Franklin's Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter. The giveaway is international and closes June 5, 2011.

Aths from Reading on a Rainy Day (there is a Mr Linky on that link) and I have announced our Shantaram read-a-long and hope some of you will join us. We begin this Wednesday, June 1.

I got three books this past week: Sisters of the Sari by Brenda Baker (from Penguin Group, thank you!), Faye Kellerman's Hangman (I love the Peter Decker detective series), and Gary Shteyngart's Super Sad True Love Story, which I heard an NPR story on the other day.

Bonnie--Thank you! I hate to admit that it feels good to win an award from students... in education we're never really sure if we have an impact or not.
