I am so excited to participate in another Dewey 24-Hour Read-a-Thon! The event takes place next weekend, April 8 through 10, 2011. The idea is to read as much as possible during the weekend.
Thoughts about the read-a-thon:
- I try to choose books that will go quickly (YA, graphic novels, shorter books) so that I feel like I am accomplishing more
- I make sure I get breaks so that I don't get that "nauseous-I've-been-in-one-position-too-long" feeling
- I get outside
- I check in with other people's blogs to do some unofficial cheerleading and to see how other bloggers are doing with the read-a-thon
- I do some of the mini-challenges; they are a great break from just straight reading
- I review every book I've read as soon as I am done with it
Books I am considering:
- A mystery (perhaps one I've got through Net Galley though that means reading it on the computer)
- Skipping a Beat by Stephanie Pekkanen
- Anna and the French Kiss by Perkins (YA)
- Ball Don't Lie by Matt de la Pena (YA)
- Cellist of Sarajevo by Galloway (short adult fiction)
- Knockemstiff by Pollack (short stories)

Yay, have fun! This time, I won't be participating. My routine is so volatile I don't know what I'm doing for the next 4 weeks. So I decided to skip the event this time. I'll try to come and cheer though!
Best of luck with this readathon! I am hoping to choose some fast books as well.
Aths--I can't stop myself from participating even though I can't devote huge amounts of time to the read-a-thon. I like the idea of participating too much :-)
April--There is something about a read-a-thon that makes me want to finish multiple books, not fewer longer ones
You have great strategies (like getting outside and reading other people's blogs. The only "problem" with that is that sometimes that becomes my reading material!) I've been eyeing the cellist of Sarajevo for awhile; it looks wonderful. The photograph I saw (I think it was on the cover) was so inspiring!
I am very excited about this Saturday, for sure!
Bellezza--I totally agree that reading other people's blogs during the read-a-thon easily becomes one's reading. That happened to me the first time I participated.
Christina--I just hope I don't get too distracted by "life" that I don't read much
I'm waiting to read Skipping A Beat and Anna And the French Kiss - although I only own a copy of the second one - I'll have to check back to see if you pick one (or both) up! Great design and header btw. Love it!

I discovered in the last Readathon that smaller, lighter-reading type books are easier to read especially when you've been reading for a long time! I have a book of short stories in my Readathon stack, too!
Reviewing each book you finish as soon as you do is a great idea. I also like the one about going outside for some fresh air. Thank you!
