Book Beginnings: Book lovers

Haunting Jasmine by Anjali Banerjee isn't due out until February 2011, but Anjali's publisher sent me a copy to read ahead of time, which I am very excited about. Anjali and I went to junior high and high school together so I always love it when she has a new book out. Other books of hers that I have read are Maya Running, Looking for Bapu, Imaginary Men, Invisible Lives and Seaglass Summer.

"I didn't see this turn of events coming, or going. My exhusband, Rob, used his charm like a weapon, and ultimately he didn't care whose heart he broke--or whose life he ruined. Neither did he care whose bed he woke up in. My mother would say, Well, Jasmine, that's an American penis for you. You shouldn't married a Bengali. Faithful, good, and true to his culture."

That made me smile; what a fun beginning to a book! The main character leaves LA for a month to take care of her Aunt's bookstore in a small town in Puget Sound area of Washington state. She isn't really into the task at first and her aunt claims dead authors haunt the store.... That's as far as I've gotten but I am really enjoying it so far.

That sounds like a delightful start! I can hear a lot of Indian moms giving that sermon! Feels almost homesick to read, lol! I'll be waiting for your review!

Kathy and Laurel-Rain--Fun is a good word for it; there is a nice mixture of funny and poignant
