Book Beginnings: Sky is Everywhere

This meme is hosted by Katy at A Few More Pages

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson is a book I have been meaning to read for a long time now. I must admit, there is something about the cover that intrigues me.

Gram is worried about me. It's not just because my sister Bailey died four weeks ago, or because my mother hasn't contacted me in sixteen years, or even because suddenly all I think about is sex. She is worried about me because one of her houseplants has spots.

I actually thought I would be finished with it by now, but I seem to only have time to pick it up as I am going to bed and then I am so tired I only read about 15 pages. I am liking it so far, but not loving it. Perhaps I can find a longer stretch in which to read this weekend and really get sucked into it.

I find the sentence quite intriguing. What does the houseplant's spots have to do with anything?

Rikki--the houseplant does make a couple appearances throughout the book, but wasn't as big as I thought it would be. I think it just symbolizes where the main character is in her grief and how she is dealing with life

That beginning made me chuckle. Sounds like something my grandmother would do. LOL

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!

Katy--The beginning was a good one and I really liked the grandmother character; she didn't let people get away with anything and she was "with it".
