Sunday Salon: Dance till you drop

Hmmm.... I find myself with a blank blog page in front of me and I think I am too tired to come up with something juicy to write about! Sorry about that. I guess that isn't really the best way to start a post and hope to keep your interest, is it?

Oh, I've seen a bunch of reviews and announcements about the contest surrounding Jennie Nash's new book The Threadbare Heart. Well, I've known Jennie since I was in junior high! So I fired off an email to her and she sent me a copy of the book! How cool is that? Now I just need to get it into my reading rotation!

This Sunday is a day of dance for our household. My daughter has a dress rehearsal from 12:00 to 4:00 and her end of the year performance from 5:00 to 7:00. I volunteered to work the dress rehearsal this year so will also be at the theater for over 7 hours.... Actually, I am looking forward to it. The studio, Santa Barbara Dance Arts is a fabulous place! They have awesome faculty, offer a wide variety of classes, and are so supportive of all the dancers who attend, regardless of talent, shape, size, and end-goal.

My daughter is in 4 dances: Broadway, Jazz, and 2 hip hop. She loves the dance itself as well as the friendships she's made. It's interesting for me to see her looking up to the teenage dancers and realizing that in a few years, she'll be one of those teenagers (she is 9 now). It's also fun to see her take on the personality of each of the dances as she changes costumes. Here's a look at her four "personalities":
Broadway to a song from "Once Upon a Mattress"
 Hip Hop to ???
Jazz to the Beatle's Hard Day's Night and Day Tripper
Hip Hop to "I'm gonna' rock..."

I know this is way too much information about this dance show than any of you wanted to read, but it's what's on my tired brain right now!

Those pictures are so adorable. I hope she has fun!

I've been dancing my entire life and recital days are always one of my favorites of the year. I actually think I'm going to be able to make it to my old studio's back home this year.

Those photos are great! It looks like you have quite the dancer there! One of my best friends danced as a hobby all through her growing up years. Now she's a physical therapist, but she teaches dance on the side and loves it. It's wonderful that your daughter has found something that she loves so much that can be a life-long hobby.

Oh, and my favorite photo is the last one. So much attitude in that photo! :)
