Puppy stuff is progressing! I've committed to a Goldendoodle breeder that came highly recommended (and is in So Cal) and a specific litter. Now the wait begins. In about a week, we get to choose which puppy we get. I know she is a girl, that she is a Parti Goldendoodle (white with red areas, a recessive gene), and I've seen photos of the litter, but I am excited to know which one will be mine!

Last Sunday, a couple of friends and I went to our public library, where another couple of friends put on a music event. Our friend even played with the band for a set! Black Culture House Santa Barbara does a great job of bringing cultural events to our town, ranging from music to food to history, etc. I do some of their graphics work so it's fun to be involved.

I just finished watching Wild, Wild Country, a documentary about the Bhagwan Rajneesh and his community in central Oregon (1981-1984). Wow. Crazy cult! I have a connection: in 1985, I lived in Bonn, (West) Germany as part of my junior year abroad. My friends and I would go up to Cologne most weekends to dance at the Bhagwan Disco. We had so much fun. The evening started with a welcome dance by the workers (who all wore shades of red and black beaded necklaces with the Bhagwan Rajneesh's image on a pendant), then we danced for hours to the songs of the mid-80s. At 11:00pm they played polka music for 30 minutes (and we faked our way through doing the polka), then the regular dancing resumed. We always missed the last train back to Bonn and spent the night on benches in the train station. Those were some of the best times in my life, and I am still friends with the people who lived it with me. It turns out the disco was one of their big money-makers and a major recruiting station, but we never encountered that part of it.

It's World Cup time! I am excited to watch some amazing football. Which teams do I want to do well? None of the major ones: Supporting my "homeland" with England and Scotland, I would love African nations to do well, so Morroco and Algeria, and, of course, I always cheer for the major underdogs (and, let me be honest, I get teary when they do well), so Iran, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Curaçao, and Haiti. Are you watching this year?
