Summary (from Amazon): He tells you you’re special…
As a barrister, Ingrid Lewis is used to dealing with tricky clients, but no one has ever come close to John Webster. After Ingrid defended Webster against a stalking charge, he then turned on her – following her, ruining her relationship, even destroying her home.

He tells you he wants to protect you…
Now, Ingrid believes she has finally escaped his clutches. But when one of her colleagues is run down on a busy London road, Ingrid is sure she was the intended victim. And then Webster shows up at her door…

But can you believe him?
Webster claims Ingrid is in danger – and that only he can protect her. Stalker or saviour? Murderer or protector? The clock is ticking for Ingrid to decide. Because the killer is ready to strike again.

Review: There's something about the cover of this book that really works for me and it actually ties in to the story. I was caught up in this story immediately as I enjoy dramas that include courtrooms and police involvement. I have also read Casey's The Burning.

Our narrator, Ingrid, is intelligent, sane, and capable, all attributes that help the reader identify with her, trust her, and empathize with her as she struggles to make sense of what is going on in her life. The novel begins with the now, the death of her colleague, then takes us back a few years to introduce us to John Webster and his creepy self.

This novel had me guessing the entire time, not sure who to trust, who was lying, and is our narrator mentally insane or are people really after her? Casey writes a very good story, creates characters that are complex, and weaves it all together in a way that makes me want to read her other novels.

Challenges for which this counts:
  • RIP XVI--thriller
