Sunday Salon: May 23, 2021

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

I watched a show this week that I am surprised I liked. It's Last Dance (Netflix), the Michael Jordan/Chicago Bulls documentary. I am not a basketball fan, but it was fun to see the players that I remember watching in college (Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, etc) and to see how it all works. If you're a sports fan, I especially recommend it.

I ended up cancelling my trip to the UK this summer. I am really sad that I won't see my aunts, uncles, and cousins, but my airline changed the times of my flights so much that I would miss connections and get home only hours before starting to teach summer school. In addition, the COVID restrictions on testing and quaranteening there were cumbersome. So, I'll stay home. At least my brother and his family are coming to visit us so I get to see them, which is wonderful!

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of hosting a virtual scholarship ceremony where we awarded students from my old high school $288,000 for their education. On Monday my co-chair and I sat on the front steps of the school and gave out their packets. It is such a great feeling and reminds me why we do all the organization, interviewing, etc.

The best news is that my daughter comes home tomorrow night!

I am participating in the 20 Books of Summer challenge, but chose to only list 15 books so that I can accomplish it. It definitely felt strange to choose three months of books ahead of time, but I am going to be forgiving if I stray. However, I chose books from my TBR shelves so it would be great if I can get them all read.
