World Book Night 2013

It's officially World Book Night here in the United States. This program began in the U.K., and this is the second year of it in the U.S.

As Book Givers we get 20 copies of specially published books to give out to reluctant readers. The authors and publishers do the work for free, not taking any payment for the process. Last year I gave out copies of Rebecca Skloot's The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and was lucky enough to have two extra boxes of books: Laurie Halse Anderson's Wintergirls and Marcus Zuzak's The Book Thief.

This year I gave out John Green's Looking for Alaska. I teach at a high school so gave the books out to a ninth grade class of reluctant readers. I think they weren't quite sure what to make of the whole process, but they thought it was cool that someone would give them something for free. I plan on checking back in a couple weeks to see if they have read the books and find out what they thought of it.
