How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be at Rose City Reader every Friday.

I still haven't finished the book I had on last week's Book Beginnings (Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson), but I've read another one in between. But, I also hope to read this one this weekend:

"Thirteen gaunt faces stared at Fi Kelly with hopeful eyes as they lined up in the dusty farmhouse kitchen, cup in hand. Sunlight weaved through cracks in the wooden shutters over the windows, painting the small gathering in dim stripes."

I like that beginning. It sets the scene and a mood. The only problem with this book is that it's an epub so I have to read it on my computer. Does anyone know how I can read an epub on my iPad?

Load Calibre software. It allows you to convert books to the file type that works for you ex EPUB to MOBI etc. Very easy to use, check out a tutorial on youtube to see just how easy it is. I am available if you have questions but I am NOT a computer genius by any means :) just a lover of books and a HUGE Calibre fan/user. BTW Calibre is free. Good luck! :0)
