Book Beginnings: July 1, 2011

This meme is hosted by Katy at A Few More Pages
How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be here at A Few More Pages every Friday.

I am leaving today on vacation and I don't want to carry any books so instead I am taking my iPad so will read whatever I've got on that. This is what happens when I do carry-on only luggage! The book I am going to read first is the Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean, which I am reading for one of my book groups.

"This way, please. We are standing in the Spanish Skylight Hall. The three skylight halls were designed to display the largest canvases in the collection."

I can tell that this novel will read easily and I love the idea of combining art into a war-time story!
