Sunday Salon: Mother's Day

Family and Life:
Last night I took my daughter and her friend to the musical at the high school where I work. It is Me and My Girl, a show I've never seen before. It's definitely old fashioned, but I was really proud of the students' singing and dancing!

And today is Mother's Day. I must admit I am really not big into these "special days". I feel like I should honor my mother every day and not point it out just one day a year. But, it's a big deal here in the US and to my mom so I usually make her a card that includes a photo and nice sentiments. I think we'll also go for a walk on the beach, maybe visit the botanic gardens

Me and my mom in 1965. Yes, I look most unattractive and am drooling, but I think she looks great! And the one on the right is me and my daughter

Work:
I spent Tuesday at my RIF hearing. Such an interesting process, it's like a real court hearing with lawyers, witnesses, etc. Nothing was decided, but I did discover that all the librarians have to decide if we'll stay in the library with a 70% time job or if we want to return to the classroom with a 100% job. That is, if the cuts hold. We'll know more at the end of May.

Books and Reading:
A friend just read Zora and Me by Bond and Simon, which she said is really good. It's a fictionalized account of Zora Neal Hurston's childhood. And, I am finally reading a book about South America! Yay me!

I have never heard of Zora and Me but it sounds really good. Can't wait to hear what you think of it. Happy Mother's Day!

Lola--I hadn't heard of Zola and Me either, but I like the concept a lot

Beautiful pictures! I'll have to look for Zora and Me--Their Eyes Were Watching God is one of my favorite books. Good luck with the RIF process-this is a hard time for teachers and librarians.

Bibliophiliac--Ah, the RIF process. At least in Santa Barbara they are being much better than in Los Angeles where librarians are getting totally screwed

Diane--Thank you for stopping by!

BookQuoter--I also like mom/daughter photos, there's just something special about them

Alexandra--I always thought my mom looked a little like a young Elizabeth Taylor when she (my mom) was young. I think it's the coloring.

I love both the photos. Your mom was gorgeous! Did she consider a career on the screen?

Btw, you mentioned in your comment in the previous photo of you mom that she was new to this country at the time. Where did she move from?
