Sunday Salon: I think I just got fired, but I am not sure edition

Family and Life:
What a weekend of dance! My daughter and her friend were in their school variety show Friday and did SO well! The place went wild when they were done. Then Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night and this afternoon she is performing in Configuration, a dance show put on by her studio. I went Friday night and worked back stage last night. What I like about this show is that it's high caliber: only the dance company is in it, so it isn't everyone at the studio who happens to take classes. I like those shows too (who can resist smiling as 6-year-olds do hip hop or jazz?!), but every dance in this weekend's show was impressive, polished, and interesting.

The really fun thing is that friends of hers from school wanted to go, which made it feel so special to my daughter. She kept saying, "They are coming to see me." It's so sweet.

Work:
Well, I got a Reduction in Force letter yesterday from my school district. But, it's strange... it says they "don't need my services" for next year. All 7 secondary librarians got the same letter, but they claim they are only eliminating 2 positions. The whole thing is depressing and unclear. They are voting on the final cuts this coming Tuesday so I'll know more then.

Books and Reading:
Not much to report on this front since I am going to do a Monday post tomorrow, but I do feel like I should have gotten a whole lot of reading done this weekend and I didn't. Hmmmmm.

Dude that sucks about the pink slip. And even more HOW they went about it. Absolutely unclear.

Oh no. :( That sucks.

Oh no, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! After reading about all the wonderful work you have done for the school library, I never felt that you could be laid off. I'm praying it's just a generic letter and that it's not what it looks to be.

Christina and Amanda--I think I'll know more Tuesday after the Board meeting. Fingers crossed!

Aths--In the back of my mind I know libraries are an "easy" thing for cuts, but I just kept thinking it wouldn't happen

Easy cuts, but hard on the students. Arggggggh.

Nothing is more important to students than a librarian willing to help them learn to use resources properly. I'm sending positive thoughts your way!

Oh no :( but how strange... if they couldn't be clear about it why not wait to make the announcement???

That's an awful thing to not know if you're going to have a job or not. They've done something similar in the past in our area with the teachers and then let them know which they would hire back in the fall. It does seem really underhanded. It seems like school budgets are tight everywhere right now. I hope your job is safe!

Bonnie--yes, easy for the district...

Connolly-Ahern--Thank you for the support

Christa--They have to give notice just in case then they can start making their final decisions. I get that, it's just frustrating.

Alyce--It's so difficult to have one's job totally out of one's own hands!

It is shocking that they can do that to you. I think the hardest part is the not knowing. I really hope that you manage to keep your job. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Farmlane--It's just so difficult when the district has to cut $10 million! There really aren't many "good" cuts to make!
