Life and Family:
Thanksgiving week is coming to a close and now I can allow myself to think about Christmas. But, before I move on, I must say I've had a lovely Thanksgiving break. My school takes off Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so I feel like I've had a wonderful rest. We had 2 other families over for Thanksgiving dinner (and played a rousing game of Trivial Pursuit after dinner), did a little Black Friday shopping, and went for nice walks. I've also managed to do some reading, but not a ton.
I created our Holiday card yesterday and ordered them and I am starting to think about presents for the family. I have to get myself into gear a bit early this year since my daughter and I will be out of the country starting December 17 (we're going to Oman to see her dad's, my ex's, family)
Work:
I haven't thought too much about work this week, which is good and unusual for me so I am really proud of myself. I did manage to FINALLY read through all the literature about completing my National Board Certification so now I just need to implement it (no small task, I assure you).
Books and Reading:
One of the best things about this past week was shopping for books with PTSA money! Given the economic climate, I feel so fortunate that I have money to pay for databases and books for our students.
As we near the end of the calendar year, I am starting to think about reading challenges for 2011. Last year I started blogging in November and got seriously swept up in the challenge-sign up frenzy. I signed up for 15 challenges and completed all but 1 of them!

2011 Challenges that I am considering: For this next year I'd like to do challenges that are new to me or that will encourage me to read books in genres that I know I like. Honestly, I don't want to feel like I "have" to read books because I signed up for a challenge
- Middle East--goes through July 2011
- What's in a Name
- South Asian Author
- YA Historical--my not do the official challenge since I read YA historical fiction anyway
- One, Two, Theme
- Debut Author
- GLBT--may not do the official challenge since I read GLBT to keep up with the literature for our LGBTQ students anyway

They have chosen twelve book, with four leaders providing historical context and questions in rotating months. They have a book list already, if you are curious.
I love the Thanksgiving break time as well. I work in the schools as an OT so appreciated that break. I know that our librarians are worried about their school libraries due to state cutbacks. Have a safe trip to Oman, I believe that was a country that was featured on Amazing Race recently.
I'm doing almost no challenges next year. I'll do the GLBT one (it's mine, I have to, of course. :D) and then your Middle East one is continuing. Then I'm doing the swap with my husband and my classic weekly project, which is less a challenge and more a project. Then I'll do RIP come fall, but that's it.
