Sunday Salon: New beginnings

Life: "School's out for summer"...waaahoooooo! What a tiring last week with textbook return, teachers checking out, etc. Actually, I work 5 extra days as the teacher librarians so I'll work this coming week, but, really, I'm done for the most part.

Family: The best thing about school finishing this past week is that my daughter still has one more week to go, which means that I can actually go to her end-of-the-year events. On Friday I went to a poetry reading that her class did. They have a wonderful program called Poetry in the Schools where a resident poet comes to their class for 8 weeks. The students just love this program! Monday I get to see my daughter "graduate" with her reading PhD (the only one in her class, hmmm, I wonder where she gets that love of books?!). The best part is that she is really proud of herself.

My other task for the upcoming week is to organize for our trip. We're off to France and England next Sunday. Good thing we share the house with my parents as they can take care of the house and the dog while we're away. I am really looking forward to this vacation: seeing family; going to museums; roaming around London and Paris and other interesting towns!

Reading/Books: As I said in my last post, I've got an issue going with what book to read next. I went to my favorite local bookstore to see if they had Simone Elkeles' Rules of Attraction, but they didn't so I ordered it, hoping it will arrive before my trip. Instead I bought Stephenie Meyer's new book that just came out today so that is what I am going to try tonight (Saturday night).

Diane--I don't think it's really hit that I am on vacation! It always takes me a while. Perhaps that's why I travel right away

Eva--The Poetry program really is wonderful. The poet gets these kids to write such beautiful things and hearing them share it was amazing
