Sunday Salon: Winding down the school year

I've discovered a format that I like for Sunday Salon posts from Jennifer at Rundpinne so I am going to steal it from her and hope she is okay with that...

Life: This past week at work was SO busy in the library! Seniors had their last day, which meant trying to collect all their library and textbooks. This is not only physically tiring (hefting large textbooks all day for days on end), but emotionally tiring. They seem to put off thinking about textbooks until the very end then cannot find them. In order to graduate, they must clear all debt so we dealt with many distraught students who couldn't find books, didn't have money (have you seen the cost of textbooks these days?!), and therefore couldn't complete checkout. Most of them are really polite about it, but there are always a few tears and angry words. Good thing my assistant and I are not combative people, which helps in these situations.

Family: My cousin is getting married today... in England. And I am not there. I wish I were (was?) because my mom, brother, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins all are. It just wasn't meant to be for me and my daughter, but it is still sad that I am missing out on the family festivities. We will see them when we go over for the second half of June, but we won't get to see everyone in one place, celebrating together....

Reading/Books: Well, so many of you were at BEA this week, but I couldn't be there! I lived vicariously through all of you and it sounds like so much fun to meet authors, publishers, and other bloggers! And the wealth of books! Amazing! I keep telling myself I will go next year, then I remember that it will always be the second to last week of school and senior checkout. I wonder if I can ever make that work..... Tomorrow I'll be posting It's Monday and on Tuesday my May reading wrap-up so I think I'll not mention specific books here except to say that I am about to have 24 hours without my daughter so I plan on doing some major reading!

It sucks not being able to be with family during a function. I had to miss my cousin's wedding last year and that really bummed me.

I don't have to collect textbooks, but I do collect library books from seniors. If only they would return the books as soon as they finish with them, or as soon as they decide they don't like it!! The students are realizing that the computers store information from way back in elementary school so they're getting a bit better, but still!

I suppose your year has ended by now. Enjoy your summer! And your trip to England!

Aths--I managed to phone to England today and talk to the bride and groom so that was really fun. And, we hope to see one another in 2 weeks

Campbele--Textbooks are my nightmare! It drives me crazy to distribute and collect them. And, teenagers don't think about returning books until graduation or the end of the school year approach. :-) One more week of school...
