Sunday Salon: Karate and Neil Gaiman

I'll bet you thought you were going to see Neil Gaiman doing karate, didn't you? Sorry to disappoint, but I hope I got your attention :-)

Friday I spent the day at Disneyland with my daughter and her school choir. They performed at 10:00 at the Carnation Stage (for those of you who've been there). Their outfits and (dare I say cheesy) songs fit in perfectly! Then we had the rest of the day to play and ride the rides. I hadn't been to the "Happiest Place on Earth" in a long time so it was fun. And, there I am in front of Cinderella's castle, wearing the rust-colored capris that my daughter dislikes so much. I should count myself lucky she admitted I was her mother all day!

Yesterday my daughter competed in a karate tournament. At this point in her training she doesn't do any sparring, just the performance of the kata (routines). This fits so well with her dancing! Anyway, a little bragging...she got first place! It's one of the first times I've seen her really proud of herself and glowing so that was really great to see.

A Teacher Librarian friend of mine posted this video and I think it's great. Just under 2 minutes of Neil Gaiman talking about Librarians and Libraries.

I like your capri pants (is that the 1950s way I'm saying it?) because they look comfortable, and THAT is what matters to me. Your daughter has every right to look proud and BE proud of her wonderful achievement. Congratulations!

Sounds like you had fun! And congrats to your daughter! I haven't been to Disneyland in a long time either! I loved it! Although I did have to stop the It's a Small Small World ride and ice my knee the rest of the day- who knew you had to be coordinated to get on a ride!

Have a great week!

The twins and I are going to DLand on the 19th. They are singing in a choir there. Should be fun!

Thank you for your congratulations everyone!

Aths--I can do Disneyland only every few years

Bonnie--I am all about comfort, too.

Suzanne--We actually avoided the Small World ride so we wouldn't have the song stuck in our head all day :-). I heard a rumor a couple years ago that they've had to re-do the boat trenches and make them deeper since tourists have gotten heavier and the boats go lower in the water!

Novel--Have a great time at Disneyland!
