Global Reading Challenge

I would like to promise that this is my last challenge for 2010, but each time I think that, I find another one that interests me! When I taught World History I was always trying to push my students to read books and authors from outside the "dead white male" arena. Now as a Teacher Librarian I am in an even better position to "push" our students to read something out of their comfort zone. So, I am excited to do this Global Reading Challenge and get more fodder...

I am going to do the Easy Challenge (one book from each section of the world).
Africa: Aya--January 6, 2010
Asia: Shanghai Girls (Lisa See)--January 3, 2010
Australasia:
Europe: Thaw
North and Central America: Enrique's Journey
South America:

The Easy Challenge
Read one novel from each of these continents in the course of 2010:
Africa
Asia
Australasia
Europe
North America (incl Central America)
South America
From your own continent: try to find a country, state or author that is new to you.

The Medium Challenge
Read two novels from each of these continents in the course of 2010:
Africa
Asia
Australasia
Europe
North America (incl Central America)
South America
Try to find novels from twelve different countries or states.

The Expert Challenge
Read two novels from each of these continents in the course of 2010:
Africa
Asia
Australasia
Europe
North America (incl Central America)
South America
Add two novels which are set in Antarctica.
Select novels from fourteen different countries or states.

I know what you mean, I've signed up for 3 challenges already and then I saw this post and I thought ohhh I want to do this too! And a historical fiction challenge. I'm trying to promise myself that 5 challenges will be my limit (YA/MG Debut, GLBTQ, South Asian, Historical Fiction and Global Reading). We'll see how that turns out!
I really liked world history because while I love America it was really great to finally learn about other countries and their history. A lot of information, but so fascinating :)

Now you know why I always say 'I'm open to new challenges', lol!

This challenge is similar to a personal challenge I'm planning on doing next year, only mine includes nonfiction and focuses on individual countries within various regions. :)

Thank you very much for posting about my challenge. I am looking forward to hosting this one as it is the first time I have tried something like this.
