Women Unbound: a challenge

I have never participated in an online book challenge before, but this one caught my eye. It is called Women Unbound and runs from November 2009 through November 2010. The idea is to read fiction and non-fiction books "related to the rather broad idea of 'women's studies". There are 3 levels of commitment:

  • Philogynist: read at least 2 books, including one non-fiction
  • Bluestocking: read at least 5 books, including at least 2 non-fiction
  • Suffragette: read at least 8 books, including at least 3 non-fiction
I think I'll go for suffragette. Here's the start of a list, but I don't promise to stick to it:

Murder in the Name of Honor, by Rana Hussein
Biographies of various suffragettes, both American and British
Freedom from Fear, by Aung San Suu Kyi
Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi (graphic novel)
Once Upon a Quinceanera, by Julia Alvarez
Letter to My Daughter, by Maya Angelou
Body Drama
Feminism: Opposing Viewpoints
Beautiful Game: Sixteen Girls and the Soccer Season that Changed Everything
In the Company of Men: a woman at the Citadel
Women Who Wrote the War
Curse of the Good Girl
The Curse of the Good Girl, by Rachel Simmons
Self-made Man, by Norah Vincent
A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini

And, I really want to look through our library's collection and put together a list of YA books that would count for this challenge.

If anyone wants to join me, let me know. Students and staff, I can post your book reviews on this blog if you'd like to participate.

I think that your going to enjoy Self Made Man. I did - it really gives the reader some insight into the male mind. :)
Looking forward to your thoughts in the Women Unbound Challenge which is how I found you. Welcome to the Book Blogosphere!
