Sunday Salon: May 3, 2026

On Friday, I attended a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity at our local Carriage Museum (think old-timey carriages, western memorabilia, etc.). The theme was western, and I actually have boots and a hat, so that was fun!

This weekend is BUSY! Santa Barbara is having its first Literary Festival, so, of course, I got tickets to a number of events. Yesterday morning I saw a panel on crime/mystery writing (photo and all their books above) which was moderated by Tod Goldberg. He had the best line when he was introducing the event: "At the end, we will have time for questions. A question is a series of words with a question mark at the end. If you want to make a statement, write a fu**ing book and be on stage." The first question really began as a statement and he called the audience member on it "This sounds like a statement, do you have a question?" Excellent.

In the afternoon, I heard both Kim Michele Richardson and Walter Mosley. All were super interesting and fun to see.

Later today, I have tickets to see Chris Whittaker, and a panel called "Daring Women," which has a family friend on it (Katherine Stewart, who writes about politics, religion, and the rise of the anti-democratic movement). AND, my alumni association is having its scholarship awards ceremony, which I am in charge of. Whew!
