I think quite a bit about how people, countries, and groups are portrayed and named in the mainstream US news, particularly the headlines. It is so often misleading and does a real disservice to the reading public. Currently, I am thinking about the war(s) and genocide in the Middle East. US reporters and news outlets use the terms "Hezbollah" and "Hamas" when they really mean Lebanon and Palestine. Yes, those groups are the main attackers of Israel, but when Israel bombs, they do not only hit Hezbollah and Hamas. They are attacking all those who live in the countries. When reporters and news outlets use these narrow, and specific terms, it makes the war seem more palatable. The same is true of the boats in the Caribbean. They are "criminals" and "drug runners" with no proof. Say what they are until we know for sure: civilian boats.
I was lucky to get a 2028 Olympics ticket purchasing slot this past week. Unfortunately, the ticket prices are super high (like 800 to $1000+) and NOTHING WAS AVAILABLE. I went to both the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2012 Olympics in London, and tickets were WAY cheaper. The events were so much fun, and it makes me sad that "regular" people won't be able to afford to attend this time around.
Ok. Enough negativity! I learned I got a HUGE raise this week, and that feels fantastic.
Last Sunday, I attended a really fun dance event with my studio and a couple of other studios from neighboring areas. I'm feeling brave, so here are videos of me dancing West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, and Rumba with my various teachers (and how excited am I to discover that Canva lets you do basic video editing?!)
