Sunday Salon: January 4, 2026

It is 2026! I hope this year brings all of us good health, happiness, and lots of laughter (and reading!). On New Year's Eve, I attended our local symphony with 7 friends; it was a fun evening, and I was home a little after 11:00 and I actually stayed up until just after midnight. New Year's Day included lunch with my family (they came though town again) and a nap. A nap? I'm not really a napper so something must be going on. Yep, I've had a fever for three days (today is actually day four). I am starting to feel better and the fever is down just under 100 today so that's good. The snot-filled head really makes me feel stupid.

Confession: I find myself scrolling through Instagram and Facebook for far too long each day, and I have decided I need to do something about it. So, I've turned my phone to greyscale, which makes both of those apps far less interesting. I can toggle back and forth between greyscale and color, and it's amazing how bright the color seems now. In addition, I bought myself a Brick, which lets me choose the apps I want to block on my phone. To unblock them, I have to get up and tap the Brick, which is on my refrigerator. I am already not doom scrolling... yay!

I binge-watched Physical Asia 100 (not really the type of show most of you will enjoy, but I had fun watching it). 8 Asian countries represented by 6 of their top athletes compete in grueling competitions. The human body is an impressive thing. Team Mongolia was my favorite (how often do you get to hear a woman say, "I think I can do well at this task, I grew up wrestling horses"). I also watched the new Knives Out movies, which I enjoyed.
