- Persuasion by Jane Austen
I had a rough day at work on Thursday when I found out that two of my work friends were laid off. I hate that. So going out with the group above to a concert in the park (all 80s music!) was really fun.
It was a three-day holiday weekend here in the US (Independence Day was on Friday), so I had a day off from work, which is always welcome. I chose to spend the day mostly on my own finishing Persuasion, watching the movie, and helping my dad unpack 36 boxes of books in their new retirement home apartment. I do love a wall of books!
In 1975, a friend's mom took us (a group of 10 year olds!) to watch the movie Jaws. I was terrified of the ocean afterwards (not helpful that we live in a beach town). It is now the 50th anniversary of the movie so I watched it yesterday. It is definitely dated (small kids out and about with no supervision, smoking everywhere, etc) but I can still see why 10 year olds would be scared of the ocean after watching it! Did you see this as a young child and if so, how were you affected?
