Sunday Salon: June 8, 2025

Last Sunday, my Zoom book group met, and we're going to read The Three Lives of Kate Cay. We wanted something light for summer, and this one looks good. Have you read it? I also attended a fun "orchard event" (meaning we ate dinner in an orchard) at our local presidio, which turned out to be really fun. The week contained golf, dancing, and presenting at the UCSB History Department Awards ceremony.

Friday night, I danced at our in-house showcase, where we do all our dances, and an outside judge gives us feedback. It was a good night of music, dance, and friends.

Last night was a total blast! A friend from high school had her 60th birthday party (with over 200 people), and it was Prom-themed. She went all out with corsages/boutonnieres, official photos, a "bake sale" raising funds for causes, a Prom King and Queen, and about 30 of us did a surprise flash mob. I danced for about three hours straight and was pretty tired by 10:00pm. All the guests got really into their outfits with ruffles, tuxedos, fancy dresses, and a few Madonna look-alikes. I think the most poignant part of the evening was that there were a number of gay couples who were attending their first "Prom" since they had not been allowed to attend their own with their partner of choice.
