Sunday Salon: May 21, 2023

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

This past week was cloudy/foggy every day, which I realize affects my energy levels (you even get a glimpse into my surroundings with this photo from my office). Tuesday I had my mammogram (all clear) and I want to encourage all of you out there who can/should to get checked.

Wednesday I met with the UCSB History department to determine which graduate students get which fellowships and prizes. It's always fun to give away money (especially when it's not mine). Friday I attended the book launch for the History department chair so I had fun contact with historians this week.

Saturday evening was really fun; I had dinner with a friend from my junior high swimming days that I haven't seen for 43 years! It was fun to catch up and meet his wife. It's funny how we can see the same face, just an older version, after so many years.

Today I am walking with my best friend in the morning then in the afternoon, I am attending another friend's birthday party at a local polo game (last year Prince Harry played on our local team, but I am not sure if he is playing today). Late afternoon I am driving down to San Diego to see friends from my previous job. They are all attending a conference so I am excited to see a bunch of them all in one place.

As I do each year, I am joining the Big Book Summer Reading Challenge (link goes to my post). Signing up for this post makes me realize summer is just around the corner.

Here is is the current state of my 2023 challenges. At this point, I am counting individual books for multiple categories in each challenge, but I'll replace them with other books throughout the year.
