Sunday Salon: February 12, 2023

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

I have three books I am working on but finished nothing this past week.

Monday was dinner with a group of women friends, which is always a good thing.

My bookshelves are finally getting installed! The work was originally slated for October, but here we are in February. They are in, I just need to have them painted. It is going to feel so good to have my books on shelves again instead of sitting in the garage in boxes.

I have been working a TON on the Alumni Association scholarships: organizing the applications (read: tracking down students to get all the pieces turned in), setting up applicant interviews, training the interviewers, and more. It's a great project, but takes a lot of time. It's one of the reasons I haven't completed any books in the past two weeks.

On Thursday I flew up to Seattle to visit friends and so far it's been super fun.

  • Thursday night I had dinner and spent the night at a friend from graduate school whom I haven't seen in about 15 years. She was a librarian and is now the YA Editor for Kirkus so we have lots to talk about.
  • Friday morning I went for a walk while Laura worked then we both went for a walk along the river. We saw a bald eagle!
  • Friday I took the bus and monorail to Seattle Center, went up the Space Needle then had lunch with Kek. We worked together at my previous job; it was fun to see him in person again.
  • Friday afternoon I took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island; I love the ferry ride, it's so relaxing and I feel like it's a great time to transition from the city to the quieter island life. I am staying with one of my best friends from high school (well, junior high). He and his wife are so much fun! We went out to dinner and just chatted until well past our bed time.
  • Saturday morning we took their dogs for a walk in the forest, which was magical. I love the look of moss, ferns, and dappled sunlight. Heidi had to work so Bruce and I headed to Port Townsend for lunch and wandering around, which was fun. I had never been to Port Townsend before. In the evening we made a yummy dinner, played Flip Uno, and went in the hot tub. Not a bad life!
  • Today I think we're going to brunch and hosting a small Super Bowl party
We ordered pizza for dinner on Thursday night and this is the cover of the pizza box. How fun is it to have a literary pizza box?!

I've met with the other CYBILS judges and we've chosen our winners. I am so excited for the announcement that is coming out this week.

Here is is the current state of my 2023 challenges. At this point, I am counting individual books for multiple categories in each challenge, but I'll replace them with other books throughout the year.
