Leaving Britain this time was tougher than it has ever been before. Maybe it's a sign of getting older? I could easily live there and though I know I won't move permanently, I like the idea of renting a place in London for a couple months each year... just something I am toying with.

Monday I attended the first meeting of my new book group. We were 7 women, all about the same age but with a wide variety of jobs and interests. It was fun to begin getting to know them and I think it's going to be a great group of people. And, I got them to read Remarkably Bright Creatures this month (see my review here); I can't wait to hear what they all think of it.

Well my week was cruising along just fine and then BAM! Thursday happened and I lost my job. Yep. No warning. They say I was doing a great job, but they are "restructuring." Gee. Thanks. About 30 of us got laid off in one day. What the hell?! I am 57 and unemployed. I have worked since I was 14 years old and still don't quite believe this is happening. Ugh. I decided not to think about it until mid-week when I will begin to look for another job. This sucks. One bright spot is that a friend took me out to dinner and lent me "Lucky Brown" (above) until I find a job. It was such a sweet gesture. My friends and colleagues have been wonderfully supportive, checking in me, helping me improve my LinkedIn profile, writing references, endorsing skills, and just being with me.

I participated in Sheila's First Book. You can see her post here.

Here is is the current state of my 2023 challenges. At this point, I am counting individual books for multiple categories in each challenge, but I'll replace them with other books throughout the year.
