Sunday Salon: December 11, 2022

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

  • I finished no books this week.

I spent a good portion of the past week watching the World Cup. I am not a huge sports fan, but international soccer/football makes me so happy and I get quite impassioned about it all, wanting the underdog (think non-European) teams to do well. Saturday was fun as I had 3 text strings going with my daughter and 2 other friends as I watched Morocco win (Wahoooooo) and England lose (very sad).

I also watched the K drama "Her Private Life" with my daughter. We face time and watch it at the same time so we can comment as we watch. And, I watched season 3 of Ramy. Friday night I watched an intense film that has been quite controversial: "Farha," which is a film based on true events during the 1948 Naqba in Palestine. I am glad Netflix has decided to air this film. All this watching is why I haven't finished any books this week.

I am starting to pack and get ready for my trip; I am headed to England on Tuesday to see family for the holidays. My daughter and I will spend a week in London with no real agenda then head to Kent for Christmas at my brother's house. After the holiday I've got a few days to visit 3 of my cousins whom I haven't seen in years. I will be working while I'm over there with a few days off, but all in all a wonderful holiday coming up!

Last night I went to a ladies holiday party with a group of women that are connected through working at the school district. We each bring an appetizer and a gift worth less than $25 for an anonymous gift switch. They are all such wonderful people so I love this event. And today I helped my parents get their Christmas tree and will help them decorate tonight. So, even though I am not decorating this year, I feel that I've done some participating.

I have joined a new book club that will meet for the first time in January. It is with a bunch of smart and interesting women so I think it will be fun. Our first book is Blookd, Bones, and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton. Have any of you read it?
