Sunday Salon: August 14, 2022

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

I swam in the ocean this week (not just paddling about, but a real swim). It's been years (decades?) since I did more than just dip my toes in (and the beach is a 10-minute walk from my house!). I was terrified and have been since seeing the movie JAWS as a 10-year old, but it felt really good to do the swim and I didn't get eaten by a shark, so that's even better. However, I've been reconsidering doing the triathlon at the end of this month. I know! I've been training for a year for this darn thing and I realize that the event itself isn't my goal anymore, getting into shape was/is. And I've done that and exercise is now part of my life. I think I am also feeling so busy with work, moving, getting my daughter back to NY, and running two nonprofit boards that one more thing just feels like too much. Am I a total loser if I don't do the triathlon?

Shelleyrae of Book'd Out reviewed The People on Platform 5 by Clare Poole and it made me think of the group of men I have become friendly with at my local YMCA. We met in the weight room and now see each other there on a regular basis. They range in age from 40s to 70s have a variety of occupations, and call themselves the "Gun Club" (guns as in muscles) and are quite pleased to have "a lady" join the club. We've even gone out to breakfast together a few times. It's fun to form a community in a place like that. Since I am moving, they've told me I am officially out of the club but still invited to breakfasts. What a funny group! I will miss that camaraderie when I move and need to find a new gym that feels just as good.

I move into my new home this coming Wednesday!

It's almost CYBILS time!
