Sunday Salon: January 30, 2022

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

I also read the final CYBILS graphic novel nominee. I am really looking forward to our discussions and choosing the winners.

I've been amusing myself with the latest season of Project Runway. I love it when I don't know a show has been going on and can binge through a ton of episodes. It does affect my reading though.
On Thursday Gary K. Hart passed away. No, he's not the Gary Hart of "Monkey Business" fame who ran for President, rather he was a California State Senator and the California Superintendent of Education back in the 1990s. I worked for Gary after I finished graduate school, focusing primarily on veterans, HIV/AIDS, and state disability issues. Gary knew I was thinking of becoming a teacher and would fax me the tests he was giving his American Government students (he always made sure to teach one quarter a year) to see how I'd do. I feel privileged to have known and worked with him and am so glad he and I had one last interesting conversation just a month ago.

The image on the left is the books I hoped to read in January. I read all of them over the course of December and January plus a few. The image on the right are the books I hope to read in February. Have you read any of them and what do you think? Any favorites?

This past Monday the Youth Media Awards were announced by the American Library Association. I love learning which YA books have received awards and it means that I can start working on my personal YMA challenge. Here's the link to my post about these awards.

Here is my final showing of my 2022 challenges. The image is a link to my challenges page.
