Sunday Salon: December 26, 2021

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

This past week was a busy one! Instead of having a week off like I usually do working in education, I worked at my new job. I am in the beginning stages of hiring a couple people, which I've never been in charge of before, so it's a good experience.

My extended family is here for Christmas so there have been many dinners and evenings sitting, talking, and playing games around the fire pit at their rented house. It is so great to see them again as it's been over two years since many of us have been together. I particularly love seeing my daughter (an only child) spending time with her cousins. (photos: me and my daughter, with my brother, and my parents)

Today will be a day of good byes. Everyone except my brother and two of my nieces leaves today, including my daughter. She and her dad are headed to Zanzibar and Kenya for 2 weeks. She has a couple fellowships to do research for her senior thesis and it's a chance for my ex-husband to go home and visit where he grew up. I am sure they will have a wonderful time and I am jealous since I haven't been to East Africa in over 40 years!

Once everyone is gone, my brother and I are meeting our longest childhood friends (since I was 2 and before he was born!) for coffee. I don't think the 4 of us have hung out in decades. Our parents and own children are usually around.

It's not quite the end of the month, but I am posting about my month's reading anyway since next Sunday is the beginning of January and it will be all about 2022. The image above is of the books I hoped to read in December, however, for the first time this year, I did not finish the stack. This has been a slow reading month and I managed to read only 4 of the books.

The image above is the books I hope to read in January (notice it's a subset of my December photo). January is CYBILS round 2 judging time and I will spend the month reading graphic novels, but I hope to fit these three books in as well. The finalists will be announced January 1.

Here's my challenge update. The image is a link to my challenge page.
