My life outside books:

For our president not to denounce white supremacy is abhorrent. Enough said. And then he got COVID. Also enough said.

Enough negativity! It was my daughter's 20th birthday this week and I sent her a box of individually wrapped gifts. Actually, they were all pretty boring and mostly were things she asked for (think Trader Joe's snacks), but it was fun to Facetime her each day and have her open one present a day for a couple weeks. The last gift was a swear word coloring book and colored pencils so she and her friends can destress and get off their screens. Apparently, it's been quite a hit.

This week has been super busy at work culminating with a virtual community forum for our Ethnic Studies program on Thursday evening. It went so well! What a relief. I was moved and impressed with the students who spoke about the positive impact the courses have had on them and how they filled a curricular hole for them. Yay!

I heard a great quote the other day from Octavia Butler: "Kindness eases change." I will keep this in mind over the next few months as we transition from remote learning to hybrid and, possibly, full in-person learning.
