My life in books:
Boy, when my reading slows down it really slows down! I have gone from 3 to 4 books a week to 2 books a month!

I am currently enjoying The Lotus Eaters by Tatjana Soli. It is set in Vietnam during the conflict with the story starting at the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975 and going back to the early '60s.

I am also still reading The Silent History on my iPhone (it's an app), which gets sent to me in daily installments. It's interesting to read a book this way and I am quite liking the story.

What's going on in my life:
It definitely feels as if we've hit the December holidays in Santa Barbara. We have actually had cold weather (well, low 60s) and rain for the past few days, the twinkle lights are out downtown, and we went to the Holiday Parade on Friday night. I love seeing the local schools' marching bands, the cheer teams, the cub and girl scouts and all the random other groups!

Over Thanksgiving we were in San Francisco for the Tremaine dance convention. What a fantastic four days! We did hit the stores for Black Friday, but not in any huge way. We stayed in the Westin St. Francis, which had an ideal location: right on Union Square! We ice skated in Union Square, watched the Union Square tree lighting, and my daughter had a fantastic time at the convention! She didn't place in the competition, but felt good about her performance.

Work is definitely different this year with the split assignment that I am doing. I feel a little bit out of it in the Library as I am only there one third time. But my friend who is doing the other two thirds is superb so I don't feel as if the Library is being neglected in any way. The other two thirds of my week are filled with Tech Coaching. I am really liking working with adults, helping them with tech, attending meetings (who would have thought?!), and most of all working with people at lots of different schools and levels throughout our district. I no longer feel isolated in my work!

I also agreed to be on the union negotiating team and hope that it is an interesting and rewarding experience. Tuesday is our first negotiation and I assume we'll discuss the 5 furlough days that teachers have this year.
