Snow in Santa Barbara?

(view from my neighborhood)

Yes, we actually woke up to snow on our mountains! This is pretty unusual for us; we sometimes get a dusting of snow up there once a year, but last night it came down low and actually stuck. So, I grabbed our jackets, rain boots, and gloves and my daughter and I headed to the snow. In less than 30 minutes we were throwing snowballs in the sunshine.

We took a walk and even made a snowman, which my daughter has never done. By the size of the snowman you can see how deep the snow was. Okay, I get it, it's not deep. If we lived anywhere else in the country it would hardly count as snow. But this is Santa Barbara where this is unusual and fun!

The best part is, when we turned around, this is the view we had... not a bad contrast (this is looking out to the Santa Barbara Channel Islands, which are about 20 miles away)

Good for you for seizing the moment! I remember my daughter's first snowman, after we moved from Florida to Pennsylvania -- what a joy!

Diane--I have made many a snowman having lived in Connecticut, England, Germany and Austria, but my daughter kept saying "I've never made a snowman" so we did. I think it's rather cute.

Connolly-Ahern--I definitely wish the snowman could have been larger, but it was still fun (and funny). We named it Sparky

Aths--The snow was all gone by 12:30 so I'm glad we went up early in the day
