Muslim Women Reformers: Inspiring Voices Against Oppression by Ida Lichter is a book that I have wanted to read ever since I saw a review on a book blog. The embarrassing thing is that I cannot remember whose blog I read the review on, so my apologies! Then I couldn't find the book anywhere. I had given up when I got an email from the publisher asking if I wanted a copy for review. YES!

"Since 9/11, the spotlight on fundamentalist Islam has focused mainly on the ideology of suicide terrorism and martyrdom."

Bam! No soft introduction for this book, no way. It comes out honest, forceful, and right there. I am a little worried that it's going to be heavy, but each chapter focuses on a different country so I think I can read it in chapter chunks and take a break if I need to. On the other hand, if it's fascianting, I'll power through the over 400 pages.

Laurel-Rain--I thought it might be depressing, but I am not finding it to be since the personal stories are of women who are working to make a difference.

Aths--I thought this one might be something you'd like

This sounds really interesting. I might have to see if my library is going to have it...

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!

Katy--It's a book you can pick up and read in chunks, which is nice.
