30 Days of Insight: A moment

Day 15: A moment, phrase or song that has changed your life the most

Well, I am going with an obvious answer to this one: having my daughter is definitely the moment that changed my life. Of course, it isn't really just the moment that has changed my life, it is every moment of every day that she has been alive.

I never wanted children. I've never been interested in babies or other people's kids. When I got married my husband really wanted children so I told him that he had to be the primary care giver. I had an easy pregnancy with no morning sickness, no aversions or cravings. The birth was pretty easy as well with only 2 hours of intense labor and about 10 minutes of pushing. So, the moment was obviously significant. How can it not be. I was terrified. What the heck was I doing with a baby? I had no idea what to do!

Honestly, I still felt that way for weeks. But somewhere within the first week I realized that my heart hurt I loved her so much. The most overwhelming thing for me was that I realized that's how my parents feel about me! So, the best thing I have ever done in my life is have my daughter. Everyday I enjoy spending time with her, watching her learn and grow as a person. Don't get me wrong, we get in arguments and have our moments, but she is interesting, funny, kind, interested in the world around her, and smart. I can't wait to see what she does with her life along the way!

Helen....it's easy to see you are a wonderful mother. I felt like you and never wanted children, but my husband did....30+ years later, I am happy he convinced me otherwise....although it isn't easy raising children.
