Saturday Snapshot--April 30, 2011

This meme is hosted by Alyce from At Home With Books

To participate in Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken. Photos can be old or new, and can be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. All Alyce asks is that you don't post random photos that you find online.

I got home from walking the dog the other day and there was a hummingbird on our Bearded Iris and Birds of Paradise. I calmly walked into the house, got my camera and figured he'd be gone, but he wasn't! Then I had to shoot quickly before he flew off so I got him from the back. It's not the greatest  photo (I wish it was a side view), but it's still pretty cool.

I love the colors in this photo, the purple and green make me happy.

  1. I didn't get a photo, but I was astounded by the loud thrumming sound when I was almost this close to a hummingbird in my yard, once, years ago. The sound was deep and strong and utterly awesome.

I was able to enlarge your photo by clicking on it, so I could see your little bird up close. Beautiful colors, as you said.

  2. Diane--Thank you, I was so excited to be that close and have him not fly away immediately

Bonnie--The noise is truly amazing when one is that close to a hummingbird, that's what alerted us to his presence

  4. Oh wow! I almost didn't see him there. With his tail all fanned out like that he looks like part of the flower.

  5. I'm glad you mentioned the hummingbird because I don't know if I would have seen him otherwise. I've never gotten a photo of a hummingbird, so I think it's a great shot! :)

  7. Aths--Thank you!

Trish and Alyce--I know it's difficult to see the hummingbird, but once I saw him I was so excited that I actually captured him on "film"

Mary--There's just something about a bearded iris...

  8. Very nice shot. It's hard to photograph those fast little guys. Good job.

I love irises! They are beautiful. I so long for flowers in my garden. However, after last night's/today's winter storm, I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.

  10. Sharon--Hummingbirds will never cease to amaze me!

Marie--I love having flowers in my garden, but have no interest in gardening. Luckily we share a house with my parents and my mom loves to garden!

Laurel-Rain--You're welcome, I love seeing other people's Saturday Snapshots!

  11. He blends right in with the flower. I'll have to pay attention to my Irises and see if any hummingbirds show up.

They are such fast little birds it's difficult to photograph them. At least he waited for you to get the camera!

  12. Leslie--he does blend right in and they are fast little guys so even though the photo isn't great, I like it
