Palestine by Joe Sacco was a Christmas gift. It's a graphic novel about Palestine (obviously) based on the author's two months spent in the occupied territories in 1991-92.
"Traffic? I'm swallowing exhaust and my snot's gone black."
The book starts with the author in Cairo, Egypt, waiting to get to Palestine. The page shows the hectic nature of Cairo so this first line is perfect.
I'll be curious to see your review of this one once you finish it. The subject sounds fascinating, and I love the look of the art!

Katy--That is a funny beginning and it endeared me to the book immediately having traveled to some pretty "sooty/dirty" cities in my time
